Thank you for visiting this page and for taking the first step toward donating your valuable time to the PTO. Whether you have 30 minutes a week or 30 minutes a month, there is a volunteer opportunity for everyone. Your ideas, your time, and your talents are truly needed to make Roberts a success.

Brief descriptions of our essential jobs are given below. Please consider volunteering for either school-wide and/or classroom specific events. Please contact the relevant committee chair if you have questions about that event or activity… but if you know what you want to volunteer for now…

School Wide Volunteer Jobs

Auction

Oversees acquisitions, ticket sales, underwriting, decorations, advertising, invitations, food and drinks for the auction which occurs in February. Jobs vary from leading a group of volunteers, picking up donated items, to setting up the day of the auction. Planning and work on this event is from November – February.

Book Fair

Coordinates set up, publicity, organizing refreshments for family night, decorating, working checkout at family night, accepting book dedications, and helping customers select books. The book fair will occur two times a year, once at a book store in the fall an once on campus in the spring.

Carnival

Organizes various functions of the event, such as classroom booths, scheduling rides and booths, publicity, sponsors, food and t-shirt ordering and distribution. Jobs range from leading a group of volunteers, organizing your class booth, working an hour the day of the event. Planning and work on this event from February – May.

Community Nights

Organizes dinner, movie and volunteers for our community night held in the spring on the Roberts grounds.

Culture of Giving

This is our annual fundraising campaign. Jobs include keeping records of donations, data entry, generating and distributing receipts and thank you letters. Planning and volunteers needed during September.

Directory

Organizes and coordinates the timely production and distribution of the school directory. Obtains directory ads, collects directory information from the online member website, formats the information and has it printed EARLY in the school year. Jobs vary from soliciting ads, sponsors, proof reading, data entry. Volunteers needed from August to September.

International Festival

Largest community event. Work with parents from various countries to put on a showcase of Roberts’ international flavor at the event, which is held on a Friday afternoon in October. In past years, over 40 countries have been represented. Jobs include: Country Specific booths, Continent leaders, Outdoor stage performers. Work on this event from September – October.

Rice Football, Basketball and Baseball Bashes

Organizes annual Roberts family evenings at a Rice football game in the fall, basketball game in the winter and baseball game in the spring.

School Supplies

Helps with the pre-ordering of school supplies in May, delivers pre-purchased supplies in August and sells the remainder at curriculum night and the first week of school.

Ongoing Volunteer Jobs

Buildings

Works with school staff on building enhancements, getting bids and working with contractors.

Community Partnerships

Sells and manages community partners and corporate sponsors.

Dads Club – PADRES (Promoting Active Dads at Roberts Elementary School)

Organizes our Fall Campout on the Roberts grounds and participates in various service days (making repairs/improvements on campus) throughout the year.

Fifth Grade

Coordinates and raises funds for our fifth-grade activities, a special year!

Front Page Newsletter

The Front Page is the weekly e-newsletter. Jobs will involve writing, editing, using layout, adding text and pictures. All the work can be done via e-mail.

Fun Run

Work with the teacher to ensure the class flag is decorated and any class themes/costumes etc are coordinated. Attend Pep Rally & Fun Run, send communication to the class as required and above all, help motivate the parents to work with their kids to raise pledges!

Hospitality

Organizes refreshments for the various meetings and functions at the school. Jobs on an as needed basis.

Information Services

Maintains the Roberts website and the PTO website. Provides tech assistance to the PTO.

International Garden and Outdoor Classroom

Maintains the garden with the support of parents, students and the community. Organizes classroom planting and harvesting days. Weekly garden liaison days for parents. Coordinates large seasonal pruning and clean outs.

Library

Library volunteers re-shelve books, maintain the books and help children to select books for checkout. This job can be a set schedule for you, usually for 30-minute increments.

Lunchroom

Lunchroom volunteers work a one-hour shift daily during the Kinder and First Grade lunch hour (10:20-11:20) walking around the lunchroom assisting children. Click this link to sign-up now!

Running Club

Works with Coach Alexander communicates with parents and supports kids in club events and with fundraising efforts.

Room Parents

Helps to coordinate and communicate classroom activities. Works with the teacher and parents on winter and end of school parties. Maintains an email list of all parents in the class and distributes information throughout the year. Collects a classroom fund to be used for parties, class auction project and teacher gifts.

School Store

Oversees school store sales of Roberts merchandise via flyers, during meet the teacher, curriculum nights, field trip days and other events throughout the year.

Staff Appreciation

Several times a year, different grades sponsor a lunch for the entire staff and teacher appreciation week, dates on the Roberts website calendar. Jobs include: coordinating your grade lunch, bringing in a dish for luncheon, coordinate catered events. As needed basis.

Tuesday Folder Parent

Collects all copied forms and flyers from the workroom and fills the students Tuesday folders. You can do your class(es) or a grade level’s worth of folders. This is a set schedule with work to be done on Tuesdays between 7:45am and 11:30am.

Welcome

Working with Room Parents to provide any help to new incoming families. Volunteers needed to help with language transitions, additional tutoring, medical center and/or area information. On an as-needed basis.

Work Room

Organizes and serves as part of a committee to copy, laminate and generally assist teachers in making handouts that they need for their students. Copies all forms and flyers for the Tuesday folders. Training is provided. Hours and dates are flexible, can be a set schedule.
